ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Since its inception Nagaland State GIS & Remote Sensing Centre has been providing full spectrum of innovative geospatial services and solutions, application softwares, geospatial data engineering and analytics services to facilitate all line departments, resource managers, planners and decision makers for sustainable development planning activities in the state of Nagaland. Indian Space programme emphasizes on utilization of space technology for the betterment of the society. Towards realizing this objective the centre is acting as an apex body of the state of Nagaland for space technology applications such as Remote Sensing, GIS, Photogrammetry, IT & ICT. The centre has now become a state geospatial resource hub and the repository of various thematic layers; geospatial applications satellite imageries, most modern hardware and software (Image Processing, GIS, GPS /DGPS) installations in addition to a team of scientists and technical staff.

OBJECTIVES

To undertake, promote, guide, coordinate and aid research and development in the field of remote sensing, satellite communications & geospatial science.

Survey for monitoring and assessment of natural resources.

To carry out spatial temporal surveys

Surveillance using Geo- spatial technology.

To develop an efficient data acquisition and retrieval system and to act as a repository of various natural resources data of the state.

To act as a nodal organization in the state, advising the user agencies and to disseminate the remote sensing & GIS technology at operational
levels.

To provide research and development support to the teaching and research organizations of the state in specified areas of geospatial
technology.

To organize training and capacity building programmes for advanced study and Research in Geo-Spatial technology and its applications.

To cooperate and collaborate with other national and overseas institutions and research in Geo-Spatial technology and its applications.

To create a platform where all stakeholders (line Departments) can cooperate and interact with each other with the relevant technologies in order to meet objectives at different political and administrative levels for perspective planning and development in the state of Nagaland.
